The cover shows a section view of the chicken embryo blastoderm at a specific stage of intrauterine development (Eyal-Giladi and Kochav stage VIII). Cell nuclei are stained with DAPI (in blue). Cells in the lower layer of the chicken blastoderm are relatively larger than those of the upper layer. The POUV transcription factor (in purple) is expressed in cells located in the upper layer, but not in the detached lower layer cells. These findings contribute to a greater understanding of the dynamic process of intrauterine development in chickens. For further details, see article by Han et al., pp. 341-345 in the present issue.
