Unlike normal eyes in wild-type zebrafish embryos (right), embryos deficient in Ras-related nuclear protein (Ran) had smaller eyes which, in addition, did not present ordered layers of differentiated retinal cells (left). This study reveals the importance of the Ran protein in eye development, particularly at later stages of development. For further details, see article by Lin et al.
