Plant Transgenesis

Cover legend

Herbicide tolerant and lepidopteran resistant transgenic cotton, commercialized in the major cotton producing countries. This cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) which produces the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) protein which is a natural insecticide against the larvae of Lepidoptera such as Helicoverpa zea (cotton bollworm), is cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions in the world. (Top) Cotton bollworm damage of a young cotton boll. (Bottom) Cotton fiber developed in a mature boll of insect resistant cotton.
