Trunk neural crest cells between the level of somites one and seven were removed from this zebrafish embryo at the 14 somite stage. One week after hatching, the larvae are underdeveloped and exhibit some abnormalities such as an enlarged pericardial cavity and yolk sac, and some loss of pigment within the operated region. Otherwise, the recovery from such an extensive loss of neural crest cells was remarkable.
